Nurturing Growth: ICC Academy’s Journey to Success

One of the things we enjoy the most about remote work is time flexibility, with the freedom and peace of mind that this can bring to the table. Who wouldn’t be happy to be able to organize their schedule or do tasks at a time that suits them best? However, along with this| adaptability, there are often added challenges.

If you have a non-traditional work schedule or lack regular in-person interaction with your colleagues, there can be a greater sense of pressure to spend more time online working, than you would in a traditional office setting. Additionally, without the presence of coworkers to remind you to take breaks, have lunch, and leave work at the scheduled time, remote workers may find themselves working longer hours and having less leisure time than they would have otherwise.

At Interactive Contact Center, we deeply appreciate and emphasize the significant advantages that remote work offers, both to our collaborators and clients. However, we also understand that this work modality can present unique challenges for individuals. For this reason, we must share some recommendations for you to balance your lifestyle while working remotely.

1. Set a schedule and make sure to follow it

One of the most prevalent obstacles is effective time management. Working from home often blurs the boundaries between our work responsibilities and personal lives, resulting in increased stress, fatigue, and diminished productivity. Just to give an example, people living alone or with their families—whether it be a partner, children, parents, siblings, or others—often find themselves neglecting designated mealtimes, disregarding breaks, starting their shifts before their schedules, and remaining working long after their designated workday ended up.

Try creating and following a timetable if you’re working remotely. Schedule personal activities during your free time, wake up and go to sleep at the same time every day, and work a manageable number of hours. A common mistake is to wake up just minutes before starting to work, with no time to take care of yourself, to tell your brain that the day is starting. It is good to take some time for yourself before starting your workday, to have a leisurely breakfast, and share with the people you care about.

2. Make use of leisure time tasks to take pauses during the day

Greater productivity is one benefit of being able to work remotely. You can have a better ability to focus if you don’t have to worry about commuting or being interrupted by a

colleague at work. That said, working remotely might occasionally become monotonous and lonely because you may not feel like part of a team, or you may feel a lack of connection with your teammates.

At ICC we make sure that each collaborator knows how important they are to their team and that each leader carries out the activities so that teams are strengthened even if they are working from home. Likewise, if you have new ideas to improve teamwork, of course, you can share them freely. You can also enjoy the advantages of remote work as an individual.

You can take some quiet time to balance your work and personal life at home. Take advantage of the free time you have by not having to go directly to the office to do something that you like. You can cook, do yoga to clear your mind, or do any other activity that you prefer and that brings you happiness.

3. Work in a separate room from your sleeping area

Another great challenge while remote working is to find and locate a specific place in the house to work, different from your room or common areas. This can affect setting boundaries between personal life and professional life. If establishing a dedicated workspace is within your means, do it. It is important that you can distinguish spaces for rest, interaction, and your workplace to give a clear message to your brain. This way you will be able to rest better when you are in your room without thinking about work.

4. Make plans for your after-work hours

Even after you’ve shut your laptop and signed off for the day, it may be difficult to fully leave work behind if your living space and workplace are in the same location. Make plans for your free time after work and try to keep to them. No matter if there are plans for a family meal, happy hour cocktails with friends, or perhaps an exercise class. You’ll be more likely to sign off and stop working if you have somewhere to be at the end of the workday.

If you follow these recommendations, the experience and benefit that remote work has brought to your life will surely be more evident. Remember that personal and interpersonal well-being is as important a resource as any other, so it is necessary to take care of it today.
